Gotye is a gem of an artist that I discovered a while before he came onto the mainstream scene, and since then he has caught the attention and intrigue of many music lovers around the world -as you can see from the clip above. His voice is very distinctive and if you've read anything that he's written about himself and his creative insights, you'll discover what a quirky and amusing person he is. His use of samples (Baa baa black sheep nursery rhyme utilised in 'Somebody that I used to know'), different genres and pertinent phrasing with lyrics really struck me. He is not your average musician nor pop artist. His music can often sound like a world that's been completely conjured all of its own and he incorporates art, be it paint or animation, in a fresh and intriguing way. Check out his first songthat came to be well known; it's what initially drew me to his music. I love the use of art, drama of story and striking voices.
