The older a leaf ages The more intriguing and beautiful it becomes The sturdy veins, its edgy form Contorting most elegantly Chlorophyll, like blood, the life force within Streams, spreads, inhabits Every part of us to the very tip Leaves, the finger print of trees Giving oxygen to our fragile form Though seemingly cut off from its tree or colony The leaf changes colour continuing to evolve When beginning to still both body and will Pondering the humble leaf I breathed in the night, the air, its sounds A great sense of movement A pull from without An energy from within 'Til it almost overwhelmed me A light shone forth engulfing all around A sense of being held Supported from above, cradled from below The breeze rustled through the trees The quiet heightened my ears Softening my mind Bringing stillness to my soul |
